PIETER BRUEGHEL THE YOUNGER 1564-1636

"The Dutch Proverbs"

The original painting was done by the artist's father Pieter Brueghel the Elder. According to Wikipedia, his son specialised in copying the painting and produced at least 16 copies. Not all versions of the painting by father and son show the same proverbs and they differ in other respects. It is said that there are roughly 112 proverbs indicated in some way.

Today's post concludes the series, but the blog will continue to add a painting every day
